I will be having hysterectomy on the day when Mercury turns retrograde (Sep 7). I don't know, if I should cancel and get a new appointment - any advice on this is very welcomed Normally surgery should be advoided when Mars, Venus and Mercury are retrograde, however I was wondering if the retrograde can be interpreted to my benefit making it a 're-thing', as it is second time I have surgery on that bodypart? Other aspects are Beneficial: Transit Jupiter conj natal Saturn, Transit Mercury sextile natal Mercury Transit Mercury in opposition to natal Jupiter Not beneficial: Mercury will go retrograde on September 7th Transit Mars inconj natal Mercury Transit Mars square natal Jupiter I am not sure how to interpret: Transit venus conj MC Transit sun conj natal Pluto Progressed Moon conj asc Any insight is appriciated

Honestly, I would wait! Mercury in retrograde during the time of surgery can interfere with the mental clarity of anyone, including surgeons! Besides, Mercury will be in Virgo during the time it's in retrograde which could also impede your recovery. If I were you, I would make the date of the surgery after October 18th! This is not minor surgery here, please, do not take any chances. It can happen as well if you do have the surgery during Mercury rx, some complication could come up later on which would require you to have something else medically done later on to correct the issue.

Hello msmir, thank you for your advice. I'll keep it in mind. At the moment I just don't know what I want to do. I have been waiting for this surgery since early May. I could have agreed to other hospitals, but the one I will be going to, have the best of the best specialists. It is a priviledge to be referred to that hospital. The way I feel about Mercury retrograde is, that it should be looked at as a part of the transits in my chart, not as the whole picture. I am a novice in astrology and I was hoping someone experienced could be able to tell, how much focus I should put on the retrograde motion. I have had surgery, that went wrong without any planets were retrograde.....and I am sure most surgery turn out just fine despite retrograde planets. There needs to be a 'trigger' for Mercury retrograde to cause something to go wrong, and I do agree to wait with certain things, if it is no big deal when to buy a computer for instance. But this is just my opinon

Hi Lisbeth,
MisMir is a very good, professional astrologer and as she said, Merc retro can cloud thinking. Merc Rx can cause confusion and mistakes. Mercury actually rules Drs. and Mars rules surgeons/surgery. (Mercury is squaring Mars that day) With your Mars aspects that you have, you can have the possibility that you will over estimate what you can do or look at the situation in a cloudy way.
Although it is good to look at how the planets are transiting your natal chart, a surgery involves a lot of other people.
If it is something that can wait, I know personally I would wait. If it isn't something that can wait, then you really have no choice. That, however is up to you as neither MisMir nor I are giving medical advice and we don't know the entire situation. It sounds like you have your mind made up, but having surgery shouldn't be compared to buying a computer. It is much more serious and requires more consideration.
Other things to take into consideration:
You want both Mars and the Moon to have good placement in addition to Mercury.
Mars will be in Cancer and Mars is in "Fall" in Cancer, which isn't great for surgery.
The Moon will be in Aries, but will be in Taurus the next day, which it is in exaltation in Taurus after 6:17 am (eastern).
Moon is void of course at 8:12 pm on the 7th. The surgery will need to be completed before that time
It is only 3 days outside the Full moon. Surgery should be avoided if possible within 5 days of the full moon as it can contribute to bleeding. Since this is a female issue, I would be concerned about this.
Mercury is opposing the Moon
Saturn is opposing Uranus
Mercury squaring Pluto
Mercury squaring Mars
Saturn in a wide conjunction with transiting Sun
So, it is up to you. As you can see, more is involved than just Mercury going RX and to me, it appears there are much more difficult things to consider.
Hope this helps and I wish you well and a speedy recovery. Kimberanne

Thanks Kimberanne. Yes, Lisbeth, like Kimberanne said, there are many other components to consider other than Mercury being in retrograde. But if this is something you really feel you want to get out of the way, and I wouldn't blame you for one bit!! Then you have to go with your intuition. I just personally feel it is never wise to have surgery while Mercury is in retrograde, but you need to do what you feel is best. All the best to you, and many blessings.
Mir

I agree with them both. ! They are top notch astrologers and I listen to them intently! I will do NOTHING important until after the Merc RX.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hello again, I am back home after the surgery, and I am starting to feel alive again. Surgery went well, and I felt so good that I was allowed to leave hospital less than 18 hours later. However on the long drive home, I got sick and spent some hours with my head in a bag. Today I am planning on going for a little walk in the neighbourhood, so hopefully in a few days I will be pretty much back to normal. But of course I am still on pain med. I think Mercury rx did not matter because it was second time I had surgery..........
